Billie Eilish Vinyl Albums: Shopping Guide

8 Min Read

Unless you’ve been without Internet for the past four years, you’ve probably heard all about Billie Eilish. From Simpsons specials and SNL appearances to Pixar movie soundtracks and Bond theme songs, Billie’s been busy—and that’s before you take her Grammy-winning albums into account.

Starting with her first EP in 2017, Billie Eilish has been making enormous waves in the music industry. If you haven’t given her songs a chance yet—or if you’re looking to explore her catalog even further—you’ve come to the right place.

In this Billie Eilish vinyl guide, we’ll be going through her releases one by one and listing some of the must-hear tracks from each album.

Don’t Smile at Me (2017)

The world first met Billie Eilish in 2015 with the release of “Ocean Eyes” on SoundCloud. Eventually, the song would become the lead single from her first full release, and the extended play (EP) dont smile at me. The rest, as they say, is history.

Across its eight tracks, dont smile at me takes the listener deep into the mind of a 15-year-old Billie Eilish. Themes of young love, heartbreak, and wrestling with self-worth echo throughout the 24 minutes of the EP.

In terms of sound, dont smile at me blends jazz, R&B, folk, hip hop, and bedroom pop into something decidedly original and cohesive.

Produced entirely by Billie and her brother Finneas O’Connell (an artist with noteworthy albums of his own), dont smile at me is the blueprint for what budding artists can accomplish without major label support. Hear it in all its glory on heavyweight black vinyl.

Standout Tracks

As far as debut efforts go, this EP doesn’t miss—every track is superb, and seven of the eight songs were released as singles. dont smile at me is worth a listen in its entirety, but if you’re looking for a crash course, start with these songs:

“ocean eyes” – This is where it all began, so it only makes sense to start here. However, even if you forget about the historical value of the tune, it still holds up. “ocean eyes” is three minutes and twenty seconds of pure Billie Eilish: lush, layered harmonies, a melancholic downtempo feel, and powerful yet understated production.
“bellyache” – “bellyache” was the second single from the EP, and it’s explosive. The juxtaposition between the acoustic guitar-led verses and the earth-rumbling electronic choruses is brilliant. If “ocean eyes” show Billie’s softer side, “bellyache” demonstrates how loud she can turn it up.
“idontwannabeyouanymore” – This track oozes sadness, yet it’s still a singalong favorite every time it comes on. Despite its minimalist production, “idontwannabeyouanymore” feels huge thanks to Billie’s signature harmonies.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? (2019)

In March 2019, Billie Eilish released her much-anticipated debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? to worldwide acclaim. And talk about record breaking debut album, this was the biggest album of 2019. There’s a reason Billie swept all four major categories at the Grammy Awards when this album came out—it really is that good. Billie Eilish is one of the few artists, along with Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lady Gaga, to be a multi Grammy award winner during her debut.

WWAFAWDWG? is a somber, brooding masterpiece punctuated by moments of pure pop elation. Across its 14 tracks, Billie manages to convince you to dance while sobbing, to sing while laughing, to smile in the face of a deep, dark depression.

Like all of Billie’s albums, WWAFAWDWG? rewards multiple listens. Every time you hear “all the good girls go to hell” or “when the party’s over,” you’ll catch another layer of Eilish and O’Connell’s genius production (which, once again, took place almost entirely in their bedroom studio).

Released on tangerine-colored vinyl, this two-disc album is a trip from start to finish. Put it on, dim the lights, and let it take you away.

Standout Tracks

Again, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? deserves a listen from start to finish. If you’re short on time, we’ve handpicked a few tracks to show you where to start.

In an album full of high highs, these songs are the absolute peak moments:

“xanny” – “xanny” is a jazz-inspired song that, quite frankly, pushes the limits of modern music. Deceptively simple, the tune is a masterclass in poignant lyricism. The production is otherworldly, too; put on a pair of headphones and listen to the way the distorted chorus vocals pulse back and forth.
“bury a friend” – Pulsing, gritty, almost evil-sounding—this is a prime example of Billie’s dark electro-pop sound. “bury a friend” is equal parts danceable and disturbing, making it an excellent representation of her music.
“my strange addiction” – With clips from the hit TV show The Office layered in, “my strange addiction” is Billie Eilish at her most playful. If this song doesn’t get your hips moving, nothing will.
“bad guy” – You’ve probably heard this song on the radio already. “bad guy” was a chart-topper for Billie, and even if you think it’s been overplayed, you have to admit—it’s pretty catchy.

Happier Than Ever (2021)

Billie’s most recent and highly anticipated sophomre album marks somewhat of a sonic shift from WWAFAWDWG? Released in the summer of 2021, Happier Than Ever sees Eilish and O’Connell transition away from the electronic-heavy production of her first two releases. Instead, as hinted at by the album cover, the duo opts for a more organic vibe (though there’s still plenty of hard-hitting electro-pop production to go around).

Happier Than Ever sees Billie shed her now-infamous oversized clothes—and with them, any walls she’s built up—to give her fans a closer look at her life. Lyrically, the album is incredibly personal, dealing with Billie’s meteoric rise to fame and the deep self-reflection she’s gone through in the years since her debut.

Happier than ever is a 16 track studio album with two discs of black vinyl, Happier Than Ever is a powerful follow-up from this generation’s most recognizable pop icon.

Standout Tracks

Happier Than Ever has its fair share of hit singles and remarkable deep cuts, too. Some of our favorites include:

“Oxytocin” – This is a brash, edgy song full of risqué lyrics, pulsing bass, and industrial pop drums. Sonically and lyrically, “Oxytocin” is a bit of an outlier on the album, but it stands out for all the right reasons.
“NDA” – “NDA” explores Billie’s newfound fame and the insane reality she now finds herself in. It’s impossible not to groove along to the quirky pizzicato violin in this one.
“Billie Bossa Nova” – While it’s more of a deep cut, “Billie Bossa Nova” will have you asking, “is there anything she can’t do?” Here, Eilish manages to take something so far from her usual style and make it unquestionably her own.
“Happier Than Ever” – It’s too early to say for sure, but the album’s title track will probably go down as one of the best songs of this decade. It’s a slow burn, but give it time to build; by the end, you’ll be headbanging along to the destructive guitar and drums.
“Lost Cause” – The head-nodding, feet-tapping bass groove in “Lost Cause” is one of the highlights of Happier Than Ever—especially when the drums drop into half time in that second pre-chorus.

More Must-Hear Billie Eilish

Can’t get enough of Billie? Neither can we. Here are some more picks to round out your Billie Eilish vinyl collection.

No Time to Die

In 2020, Billie Eilish released “No Time to Die” for the James Bond film of the same name. At only 17, she became the youngest performer to produce a Bond song.

If you’re a fan of brooding orchestral pop, you’ll love the combination of Hans Zimmer’s string arrangement coupled with Billie’s strained vocal. Pick up the 2 LP movie soundtrack on limited edition picture disc, white vinyl, or gold vinyl.

Lo Vas A Olvidar

Never content to rest on her laurels, Billie Eilish released the half-Spanish, half-English “Lo Vas A Olvidar” in 2021. A joint venture between Billie and Spanish singer Rosalía, “Lo Vas A Olvidar” featured in the Season 1 Soundtrack of the TV show Euphoria.

Even for Billie, this song is a slow burn, but it's worth the listen. The subdued atmospheric synths allow Eilish and Rosalía to shine through, while the cinematic drums give the track an extra kick.

Everything I Wanted

Her first single post- WWAFAWDWG?, “Everything I Wanted,” earned Billie yet another Grammy for Record of the Year. With its softly pulsing electric piano and minimal production, the song is Billie’s heartfelt tribute to her brother, best friend, and collaborator Finneas O’Connell.

If you want it on wax, however, you’ll have to find one of the 8,000 yellow vinyl copies that were released as a limited edition run.

Experience Billie Eilish on Vinyl

Billie Eilish’s music is, as some would say, “album music.” It’s meant to be heard all in one sitting, in the order the artist intended. And there’s no better way to do that than dropping the needle on a fresh vinyl record and turning the volume up.

Whether you prefer the innocent electro-pop sound of dont smile at me, the dark descent into madness of When we all fall asleep, or the mature-beyond-her-years songwriting of Happier Than Ever, one thing’s for sure: Billie Eilish sounds phenomenal on vinyl. Her painstakingly-produced albums shine through in analog format, and reading through the liner notes as you listen is a quintessential experience. At some point, Billie Eilish will be part of the conversation of “ Who has the most Grammys?”
